Okay, Windows 10 is here. Now what?
I went ahead and updated a couple of my workstations, my laptop and my all-in-one, both former Windows 7 machines. Being so new, I knew driver support would be an issue.
Everything seemed fine at first…
My all-in-one computer for the most part is just fine, in fact, faster than ever. All the new features, including Cortana seemed to work perfectly. On my laptop (which is for work) seemed fine at the beginning, but I noticed things that looked a little funny. My command prompt was fuzzy, among other windows. Even after reloading just stock Windows 10 and even downloading the drivers from nVidia, the graphics didn’t seem as good. The list goes on, the Cisco VPN client did not work without heavy hacking around. Another thing that did not work was the Intel Proset drivers. The installer even said that there were no Intel adapters present! I tried hacking and cracking that, tried different, but close drivers, but all in all, it was just to much of a pain to keep messing with it. I lost Jumbo frame support and with the “close” match drivers my network adapter didn’t work as good as it should. I could however install the Proset drivers after extracting the drivers from the proset and manually installing it.
Conclusion,
Windows 10 is great! Polished design, snappy interface and a lot of new and old features. If you haven’t updated, in my opinion, I would wait. It seems to be best to wait for a computer/laptop to be built for Windows 10 for the best compatibility.
Just my 2cents.
